The smoker was on. The nutmeg crossed my path. We had never smoked nutmeg before. Yesterday we changed that. The smoke coats and penetrates the nutmeg. It combines the aroma of wood with the sweet spice. We put the smoked nutmeg to work in a bread pudding dumpling dough. It added a complex headiness to the mixture. Today we shall see if the smoke falls to the background or rises to the top.
