Lunch today at the bar at a hip new restaurant. We tried out some of their signature cocktails and put together our own tasting menu. My drink was on the sweet side so I quickly switched to wine, but his drink was perfect for him and he had two. The food was interesting, some good, some great, some not so much. As it happens in quite a few restaurants in NYC the seasoning ran the gamut from none at all to salty as the sea...but we saw some interesting things and got some good ideas. The best part of lunch was sitting at the bar. We made brief and not so brief contact with the parties on either side of us. The people around us were very congenial and we shared some dishes and some goodwill. We left substantially poorer but with smiles on our faces and a spring in our steps. It was one of those great NY moments where everything came together to remind us why we always come back to the city. There's a surprise around every corner and most of them are better than anywhere else.
