While reading through A. B. Marshall's book of ices I saw and was inspired by a picture of an old fashioned hand crank ice cream maker. In reading further, and looking at the device, I began to wonder about using this simple mechanism in conjunction with a super ice or liquid nitrogen. I could then make traditional hand cranked ice cream nearly instantly; yet with the denser richer texture of yesteryear.
I do not have either the ice cream maker or the liquid nitrogen currently in our kitchen, I am currently discussing a speculative attempt at dealing with a product and the inevitable outcome. Yet, I wish to broaden my thoughts. I am now beginning to look for tools and concepts used by our predecessors in order to apply today's technology to them or vice versa in an attempt to heighten my own awareness of the past and being able to apply it to today and tomorrow.
