I guess a hot ice cream soda was only inevitable as we work through permutations with our most recent culinary breakthrough. Today I was in the mood for comfortable. I rarely drink ice cream sodas, but when I do they always manage to put a smile on my face. I remember making root beer floats as a kid with the not quite cold enough soda foaming from the addition of ice cold ice cream to a tall glass, occasionally frosted but only when the concoction was planned out.
In thinking through thoughts and playing with ingredients I assembled a maple syrup cola. Truth be told, maple syrup cola is not that difficult, though it is quite tasty. With the maple cola in hand, I reached for our hot vanilla ice cream and started cooking. When the ice cream was made, I poured some cola into a glass, added a scoop and topped it with more cola. What really made me smile was that the cold cola foamed around the hot ice cream. In drinking my afternoon refreshment, I slurped the cola around the ice cream which caused it to melt and resulted in the warm ice cream mixing with the cold soda.
