It has to be the heat. The humidity and heat have finally gotten to me. It is not often that I crave lemonade. A margarita, yes, lemonade on its own, not so much. As I continue to go through hundreds of pages of notes, inspirations leap from the page. In one of my older notebooks, More From the Yellow Notebooks--see side bar, I came across cumin lemonade.
The heat and the sorting worked together and low and behold I am now drinking a cool and refreshing glass of cumin infused limeade. I know, the post is called cumin lemonade and that was the inspiration. However, I did not have any lemons on hand, merely limes and key lime juice so that is what I made. I made a simple syrup infused with toasted and then pulverized cumin. I then added a pinch of salt, and fresh and bottled lime juice. I let the flavors blend for an hour and then I strained the mixture. The only thing my limeade is missing is a generous splash of tequila. Perhaps when I am through organizing.
