That's where we are this week, at least until tomorrow afternoon. We're doing some private classes at an upscale market and when we arrived yesterday there was a big sign advertising fresh cases of Hatch chiles from New Mexico. The sight of the roasting baskets brought back a rush of memories from our days in Colorado. We haven't had New Mexican green chiles since we moved back east, which is a pity because we both enjoy them immensely.
As luck would have it we were directed to Fireside Pies for dinner last night. It was just a bit more than a stone's throw from the hotel and we wandered over there for an early dinner. The special last evening was Hatch green chiles. We added them to a pizza with fresh mozzarella and spicy Italian sausage. The pizza was tasty witha nice light crust and a well seasoned sauce. The sausage was house made and the cheese was properly oozy and gooey. The chiles were incredibly aromatic, floral and a little sweet, with a slight edge of heat on the finish. I had a root beer float and Alex sipped a local beer. As we savored our meal, all was right with the world. Some days simple is exactly what we need to make us happy. After the meal we strolled back to our hotel and shortly thereafter tumbled into bed.
So far I have to say that Plano has been a pleasure. The people have been incredibly friendly and we're having a great time. It's work and pleasure all rolled into one. These are the days when we realize how lucky we are to do what we do. It's back to the kitchen bright and early tomorrow. Wish you were here because we're going to have lots of fun.
