Some days you just get lucky. One of the things I've missed since moving to PA is the availability of lobsters. Every so often when we lived in NYC Stew Leonards would have great sales on lobster and so I got my fix on a semi-regular basis. Of course most summers included a week in Rhode Island so I ate my fill there are as well. This summer there's no trip to New England until Labor Day when we're going to Portland for a great event that you will read about very soon (teaser!) and this last couple of weeks I have been quietly jonesing for lobster.
Today, completely out of the blue, Alex came home with lobsters. They were having a sale at our local McCaffrey's and he just happened to stumble upon it while shoping with Amaya. He decided to surprise me and brought home four beauties. It was the perfect gift. He split them open and stuffed them with butter before putting them in the big green egg. I took a few pictures, because that's what I do, and a little while later we sat down to grilled lobsters and a 2005 Jayson, Napa County Chardonnay. They were juicy and smoky and so good. The perfect dinner, soon to be followed by blueberry pie and ice cream. I may not be in New England but I'm definitely feeling the vibe.
