This was the first cake where I let Amaya take the lead on baking. We discussed flavors and she decided on lemon cake with strawberries. We ended up making a lemon chiffon cake brushed with lemon syrup and garnished with whipped cream and (mostly) strawberries. Amaya helped with every step of the process and did all of the decorating herself. It was so much fun to take a step back and watch her do her thing. This was a labor of love because the cake was for one of her favorite people: Pega. Peg is Amaya's Aunt Marie and for anyone who knows who Aunt Marie was, that's a pretty important person to be. If not, you'll just have to take my word for it. Amaya debated making a heart or a star on top of the cake but in the end, she felt that a portrait of Peg's smiling face was the best decoration of all.
