I am constantly looking for what is next, what is new, what can be explored, taken apart, re-imagined, adapted, adopted, and tinkered with. When we focus on creating new things we often overlook what already exists. We forget what sparked the original idea. We don't appreciate the origins. A solid case of the idea usurping the inspiration is pumpkin spice. It's everywhere you look: in coffee, beer, and even ice cream. Pumpkin spice that has taken over the fall season.
Now more often than not, pumpkin spice is taking the place of pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spice has become so much a part of the Autumnal experience that the pumpkin itself is lost. Sure, some of these seasonal creations may have trace amounts of pumpkin in them but it is the spices blend that shines. Spices are a wonderful thing as long as we remember that they are meant to be an accent rather than the main attraction. Without pumpkin there would be no pumpkin spices.
