Citrus doughnuts can be a tough sell. There are some people who are instantly excited about them. They love the sweet-tart, fragrant flavors of these fruits. Other people make "the face." The "Why would you put that on a doughnut?" face. But if we can put the flavor into context for them, in this case by likening the flavor to a Creamsicle, suddenly the doughnuts become much more appealing to a wider audience. There is something special about the combination of citrus and vanilla. Take a crisp-tender cake doughnut that you can sink your teeth into and add some creamy vanilla and blood orange glazes and you have something pretty special. It's the layers that make the difference.
