Our All in Rice Krispies Treats were delicious. They were beautiful. They were a pleasure to eat on their own. Unfortunately, they were not very functional on a doughnut. I sliced them thin and baked them into sheets that I crumbled on the doughnuts. They were good. But the overall doughnut experience was not better because of them. Today I sliced the treats into thicker slabs and baked them in a 300°F oven for thirty minutes. The treats caramelized and their aroma permeated the kitchen. I removed the caramelized treats from the oven and let them cool. I broke them into pieces and pulverized them in the food processor. I added some white chocolate to the mix to round out the flavor. I pulverized everything together. I crumbe-lized it.
The finished crumble was sweet, salty, nutty, chewy, smooth, and rich. Today I put it for a test run on a cup of custard. Tomorrow it will be on doughnuts and available as a custard topping.
