I love pulling off cake papers. There's something so satisfying about the way they peel away from the crumbs. It's a small pleasure that always brings a smile to my face. Today after I successfully pulled the paper from my marble sponge cake, I was struck by the pattern it left behind. It's the shadow of my cake, a small record of how I created it, and it was discarded moments after this shot was taken. Still, for me, it was a picture worth remembering. There's beauty in the remnants we take for granted and then toss in the trash.
