I've written about this tip before, but it bears repeating. Sugar crusted pie dough takes any pie to the next level. I'm a person that takes my crust seriously. It has to be made with butter. It needs to be tender, flaky and light. It must be delicious. Alex and Amaya like a sprinkling of sugar on their dough. I like the sugar crust because it makes the top extra crisp, crunchy and yummy. It's super easy to do. Fifteen minutes before your pie is done, take 2 tablespoons of coarse sugar and add just enough water to give it the consistency of wet sand. Brush it all over the top of the pie and put it back in the oven to finish cooking. It takes about a minute to do and you will be rewarded with a beautiful, extra special pie.
