Marketing mavens have pushed the envelope of when fall is and thus when pumpkin season begins. Despite my frustration with jumping seasons and forcing ideas I too brought pumpkin back to Curiosity Doughnuts. I have a thing for pie. Almost all pies. But when summer ends I know I can begin to play with the darker flavors and aromas of cold weather pies. We are currently making a pumpkin pie flavored glaze and using doughnut crumb streusel to top doughnuts. We have played with the combination on our cider sticks and our yeasted clusters. The combination dates back to our streusel crusted pumpkin pie. I have reworked it into a doughnut.
