Amaya and I agreed on ice cream sundaes as an appropriate New Year's Eve dessert. Festive and relatively easy, right? Well not quite as easy as I was imagining. Though we did use store bought ice cream, we needed home made whipped cream and sauces. The final flourish was the cookie crumbs. You can't have a sundae without something crunchy to pull everything together. Fortunately we had salted pistachios and Newman's Own chocolate sandwich cookies in the pantry. Alex heckled me as I scraped out all the filling but it was a necessary step. The finished crumbs were sweet, salty, and very similar in appearance to the dirt in my garden. A touch of green makes all the difference.
