We have blended chocolate and vanilla in our marble doughnuts. We have fused chocolate and vanilla together in our black and white doughnuts. We have even layered chocolate and vanilla for our half and half doughnuts. Chocolate and vanilla are readily available and easy to pair with each other. There visual opposites make striking combinations. Today we began looking at flavor combinations with a twist. We rolled our pumpkin and lemon doughs together and shaped them like our twist doughnuts. The fried finished doughnut does not show the two doughs clearly. When we bite into the doughnut we get the surprise. The lemon and the pumpkin doughs both stand out and up. The lemon compliments the pumpkin adding brightness. The pumpkin adds richness and fullness to the pumpkin. The twist is best when the flavors stand on there own while creating an exceptional experience eaten together.
